German Premiere on Sunday, 26.02.2012 at 17:00
The presidential elections in Senegal are only days away. Due to the constitutionally very much contested candidacy of President Wade, massive mobilisation has built during the past months. The tensions are growing with every repressed demonstration.
To mark this important event AfricAvenir in cooperation with AFROTAK TV cyberNomads invite you to Hackesche Höfe Kino on Sunday 26 February 2012 at 17:00 for the German Premiere of the documentary “Yoole (The Sacrifice)” by multiple award-winning Senegalese director Moussa Sene Absa. “Yoole (The Sacrifice)”- of which Sene Absa says it is his most important film to date – is a poetic and extremely critical film on the Wade regime. In April 2006, a boat was found in Barbados with eleven dead bodies on board; the boat had left Senegal four months earlier. Absa, lecturing in Barbados at the time, went home to find out more about the dreams and ambitions of the men found on the boat. Absa takes us through the last days of the castaways by reading the tragically poetic diary of one of the”passengers”, a story line which is broken up by archive footage of a party conference with Abdoulaye Wade and the testimonies of young Senegalese who speak of betrayal of their generation by the Senegalese government.
